Satellite State - 3 Track Demo
Satallite State are a five peice band formed in 2005 in sunny Guildford. They have fans in high places in the form of Steve Lamacq and Hew Stephens.
First track was One Small Step which starts in the style of an anthemic guitar based rock classic, melodic vocals which nicely just avoid slipping into dreary. The track seems to have been made for the festivals, can imagine it going down really well in a dark tent towards the end of the night. Clockwork starts with a great toe tapping drum and guitar intro. Very Snow Patrol in feeling, strong melodic vocals which rise to a peak at the chorus.
Carry Your Own weight is more Keane in style, quieter, more acoustic but strangely the vocals now had a sound of Robbie Williams I hadn’t noticed this before! However the vocals also became so quiet that the music really overwhelmed, this for me spoilt what had been a promising track.
Nice touch for the promo was a photocopied picture of the band who unfortunately all looked like graduates of a local borstal academy. However the quality of the music and overall performance will I think more than make up for this and this band could be destined for much bigger things.
