The Kut - 3 Track Demo
The Kut are an all girl group (not manufactured before anyone asks) that thrive on the darker side of indie pop, this 3-track demo is my first introduction to them and while it doesn’t set the world on fire, it does show some promise at the same time.
The Vision opens things and is the darkest track on the CD, the vocals tease and remind you when put to the music what Sonic Youth would sound like if they’d had a pop singer rather than Kim Gordon fronting them. Brother is a soulful song that lacks a bit of punch on the vocal, but that is outweighed by the last track Don’t Want You, it’s funky as hell with the guitar line running throughout it, almost a female Gang Of Four on this one.
Be interesting to see what they come up with when the get into the studio with a producer and start to release records through their label Criminal Records who they recently signed to.
