The Beat Surrender

Royksopp are one of my favourite bands of the last four years or so, they’ve not only produced two fantastic albums they’ve also been responsible for a handful of superb remixes of other artists as well.

So I was a bit dismayed when I read that they had decided to release 49 Percent as a single, the one track on the new album The Understanding that I didn’t rate.

Anybody who has suffered reading my reviews for a while now will know that i’m a fan of the mixes that Ewan Pearson has done over recent years, so it’s a result that he turns up on this twelve to instill some order to proceedings with a suitably classy remix. Where as Pearson on the whole does away with the vocal which was half the problem on the original, the M.A.N.D.Y Remix utilises it well using it as a further instrument in and amongst the the eight and a half minutes of twisted dance.
