A Place To Bury Strangers - A Place To Bury Strangers

I wasn’t overly optimistic when I picked up this CD from my pile this afternoon, the cover didn’t really speak to me, the band name sounded awful and fifteen tracks seemed like it could be an album that went on for ever.

Jesus how wrong could I be though, this is such a mesmerising album, it doesn’t have beauty it doesn’t have fragile harmonies that you might expect of an album that I find mesmerising, but it just takes over you when you listen to it.

Gigantic, intense, brooding stuff that sounds somewhere between Jesus And Mary Chain and Joy Division, then you get a track like She Dies that is just such a mass of noise, a literal wall of sound that feels like it could come crashing down at any point, but never does.

Utterly compelling and near to spellbinding, I reckon it’s a cert for top 50 at the end of the year.

A Place To Bury Strangers, the self titled album is out now.
