The Lancashire Hotpots - Album Sampler: Keys Wallet Phone / CHAV
After the success of their first album, the Hoptpots have passed us a sampler from their new album “Pot Sounds” which is released later this year on Townsend Records. For them at’s not heard them before, the Hotpots are a band who sing their songs with a distinctive Lancashire accent (but don’t hold that against them). They’ve got a comedy folk style and are quite entertaining.
The first track on this ‘sampler’ (whatever happened to E.P’s?) “Keys, Wallet, Phone” is about what all men need to remember before leaving the house – and as with previous Hotpots songs, the inclusion of modern technology in the song’s lyrics makes it all the more humorous. They sing like old blokes, but their subject matter is what young folk would be talking about a lot of the time.
“CHAV” is an addition to the growing number of anti-chav songs I keep hearing around and about; it seems that musicians are getting fed up with our little hooded friends. The Hotpots here sing all about there horrible clothing and antisocial habits. Rather cleverly, this is done to the tune of “Rawhide” by Frankie Laine, although it’s more ‘influenced by’ rather than a straight copy.
I’ll be looking out for “Pot Sounds” (great title) to see what other ideas they’ve come up with – and I’m from Yorkshire, so they must be alright. They’re currently touring with Paddy McGuinness, sounds like that should be a laugh..
THE LANCASHIRE HOTPOTS? WELL WORTH A LISTEN.
