Claude Vonstroke - At The Controls
Claude Vonstroke is very cool at the moment, so you have to say it’s something of a coup that he’s been tempted into taking this compilation album on. At The Controls though is a series that is trying to put a little bit of the leftfield back into dance music…and to a degree it succeeds.
Taking the formula he’s used on his own production album (Beware Of The Bird) and the accompanying label (Dirtybird) you get two CD’s of very well put together tunes (or should that choons?) that are very much in the techno and dirty house camps.
The problem with this is that it does after a while all blend into one, lacking in a little bit of variety, however if this is your bag you’ll love it and probably think that it deserves a much higher score. The highlights for me were Samim with the excellent Heater track (has a real French sound to it) and Two Armadillos with Tunnel Of Light which I really can imagine getting down to in a sweaty club.
At The Controls by Claude Vonstroke is out now through Resist.
