Simian Mobile Disco - Attack Decay Sustain Release

James Ford and James Shaw finally get around to releasing their own album, having spent the last few years producing tracks for Arctic Monkeys and The Klaxons along with various remixes. Anyone who was a fan of their last band Simian (who split leaving the two of them to take on the SMD moniker) will be in for something of a surprise.

It’s not a slightly twisted pyschedelic 60’s inspired album, instead it’s aimed squarely at the dance floor, filling the void between the classic rave tracks of the late 80’s and the supposed new rave that is all the rage at the moment. While this current scene is something of a joke, Simian Mobile Disco have produced one of the best albums from a band fitting the new rave description.

It’s The Beat is still the stand out track for me with Ninja on vocals, but other tracks also come to the fore on the album, Tits & Acid I wasn’t keen on as a single but it sounds majestic on here as does the penultimate track Love.

The album is out now through Wichita Recordings.
