Wordsmith & I.N.C. The Poet - Baltimore Martini

Baltimore hip hop legend Wordsmith draws on his surroundings and life in the City to give you a first person perspective on what has been fictionalised to such brilliant effect in The Wire, namely the streets and the drugs and the guns and the struggle for survival that so many people face on a daily basis.

The twist to it, is that the more clean cut Dutch lyricist I.N.C. Poet has also teamed up with him to give you the flipside of that life, showing the hope and options open to a guy that looks to step up to the plate and make something better of himself through doing things the right way…at least that’s how I hear it.

While this could have been a killer album and the lyrics and journey they take you on are brilliant, I find some of the vocal delivery lacking a real punch to drive the messages through to you, the vocals are soulful, but a tougher edge alongside Wordsmith would probably have worked better for me.

A decent hip-hop album no more and no less, it’s out now through Nu Revolution Entertainment.
