Barefoot - Barefoot

Hmmm…this is a strange one….for years the dance industry has taken to plundering popular tracks from all genres of music in the past and have ripped them up and spat them back out with mixed results.

So Barefoot’s self titled debut album is a bit of a role reversal, as floor filling anthems from the last twenty odd years of dance music are given a jazz styling and take on more of a cocktail lounge than cool club lounge feel.

The results are mixed despite the excellent vocals from frontwoman Sam Obernik. White Lines isn’t too bad, likewise It’s Like That and Hideaway are relatively successful. Tracks like Born Slippy and Ain’t No Love (Ain’t No Use) just don’t cut it for me though.

So yes a different idea, but ultimately it leaves you wondering what the point is really. The album is out now.
