The Beat Surrender

The Parlotones are a massive band in South Africa where for some reason their indie / emo sound seems to have gone down a storm. As is the rule these days though they have now decided it’s time to crack the more lucrative UK and American markets.

They’ve been playing a number of dates over here recently and have now launched their assault proper with this EP. The main track on this is supposed to be Beautiful, which to me is a dull plodding piece that is only one step up from the James Blunt naffness of his similarly titled song. Pretend is also equally poor, coming across sounding like a Feeling b-side (yes that bad).

Things do improve on the last two tracks though, Tiny introduces some rather nice backing vocals in to liven things up and Here Comes A Man is enertic and balls-y in a Scouting For Girls pop type way.

The EP is out now through Sovereign.
