The Madding Crowd - Celebration (Billy’s Back)
Four piece self styled eccentrics Madding Crowd have released a free download as a kind of New Year gift to fans. Apparently there’s even a you tube style video to go with this track in which none of the band appear…. amazing.
Madding Crowd are a strange band, I reviewed a recent single Modern Man and found it a bit bland and not anywhere as wild and rock n roll as the promotional material would have you believe. This track is even more bizarre I had hoped that Celebration could have picked up on some of the promise shown in Modern Man, however the opposite seems to have happened.
The track comes across in a very child like way, had to play through several times just to be sure and even my seven year old daughter commented that it sounded like something you would hear on Barney or The Doodles (this comparison will only work if you have children or are addicted to CBBCs).
On a positive note I liked the ska influence but the lyrics and the music just don’t go together, whatever this band are on we all need some (would make the day go really fast and I doubt I would suffer from road rage ever again, however I would probably be locked up for my own safely).
