Sugar Blue - Code Blue

This is the first album i’ve heard by blues-man Sugar Blue and it does leave me with slightly mixed feelings, overall though I guess I fall down ever so slightly on the side of quite liking it.

I normally find blues music quite intense to listen to and something that is very dependant on your mood. With this though it’s something i’ve slipped on a few times now and not really given my mood a second thought. Now that could be looked upon in a good way I guess, but for me it doesn’t move me enough, even when he’s singing about the attrocities in Darfur.

As an album, Code Blue really comes to life for me not when he’s singing, but more so when he’s got the harmonica going, this gives you a closer feel to a rawness and emotional feel that you want from a blues album.
