Joss Stone - Colour Me Free!

I know looking at this score for the album you’d think otherwise, but I really do like Joss Stone and I think she’s had way too much of a hard time of things from the press, who’ve criticised her about so many things that have little to do with her music.

Unfortunately though her last album didn’t hit the heights of the first two and it’s disappointing to see that Colour Me Free! doesn’t look like reversing that trend either as it drags on far too long with not enough sparkle in the musical production to give Stone the platform she deserves.

All of which is a shame, because with Amy Winehouse spending more time getting boob jobs and holidaying abroad there is a gap in the market for a soulful young diva from the UK, only on tracks like 4 And 20, Parallel Lines and I Believe It To My Soul does she come close to delivering though.

Things really came to a head on this album for me on the dismal cover of You Got The Love and then the album finishes with a track near the end that is well over thirteen minutes long, by minute seven i’d already lost the will to live.

Don’t write her off, but she needs to come back with a strong album next time out or it could be goodbye.
