Crystal Castles - Crystal Castles

If you have read a music magazine or website over the last six months then the chances are that Crystal Castles will have been hyped to high heaven within the said publication.

I’ve seen comments bandied about that suggest they have come up witha whole new genre of music (they haven’t) and that they were the potential saviours of music (they aren’t as it doesn’t need saving cheers, it’s doing fine). All of which is a lot to put on shoulders of ones so young.

The self titled debut has landed and surprise surprise it’s not all singing and all dancing, some of it is downright messy, some of it sounds dated as hell…but there are glimpses of greatness that you can at least see where the hype might have come from.

Within these acidic beats and computer game squeeks you get the troubled, howled vocal and on some tracks everything comes together really well, I loved Crimewave (Crystal Castles Vs Health) and Courtship Dating is also pretty good, my favourite track though is probably the brilliant Black Panther.

More of those sort of tracks and they may just fulfill their supposed prophecy.
