Daft Punk - Technologic
Daft Punk really have fallen so far off of the dance pedestal they found themselves on after the release of Discovery and the now classic Homework.
So far in fact that the release of third album Human After All has probably slipped under most peoples radar. It’s only with the release of two mediocre singles that we know a pulse still beats in the heart of Daft Punk.
Technologic is a faint pulse at best, it’s aimed at the dancefloor but is a shadow of former hits like Around The World, this is nearer to Fat Boy Slim than an even Fat Boy Slim would like, a phrase lazily repeated over a grating beat…sound familiar Norman?
So why does it make it all the way up to three stars? Well thanks to the help of a fellow countryman, no i’m not talking about one of the famous farmers i’m talking about Vitalic. Fresh from the success of his OK Cowboy album he asks Daft Punk to ‘stand clear’ before pumping their track full of life with a thumping techno remix.
Bridges are being built in Anglo-French relations where Blair and Chirac failed by Brixtons finest, Basement Jaxx. They put the ill will of two countries aside to turn in a typically crazy mix, with all manner of things going on within it. Needless to say it’s a hundred times better than the original and is unlucky to get nudged into second place by Vitalic on the podium for this one.
