Various Artists - Disco Italia - Essential Italo Disco Classics 1977 - 1985
I’ve generally been a big fan of the releases that have come out from Strut Records in the last year or so, they’ve really opened my eyes to some different genres, pinpointing some brilliant little golden ages and giving you a kind of time capsule best of from within that period.
Disco Italia though doesn’t cut the mustard for me, Disco is a well covered period anyway and Italian Disco and the house music that replaced it years later has been readily available in the UK through specialist import shops, so it kind of loses its educational function in that respect.
The other side of it is that I don’t think it’s the strongest collection of songs which is something they usually get right. Lets see where the label goes next when it goes digging, it will hopefully be better than this.
