Yimino - Doe/Autonoe Vera
Yimino release their latest album Autonoe Vora which might or might not be Latin for something, either way I don’t know what it means and I don’t really care, because behind the odd title lays a very good album of electronica, something i’m always partial to when it’s done as well as this.
Some electronica albums fall down because they get a little bleepy, some fall down as they veer too far towards classical music and feature way too many strings etc, some artists like Yimino get it spot on, they fuse some beautifully melodic ambience with beats that cruise gracefully along and to keep things interesting for the listener you also get the odd vocal cut up as well (Nes [Sidd]).
The actual CD i’ve got doesn’t feature the entire album, instead you get selected tracks which come from the album, the single Doe (which by the way has a superb Plaid Remix) and others such as Silmendy which was on QEH 2004, that is also getting a re-release as a download bundle later this year.
As well as being one of the finest electronica CDs i’ve listened to (it’s their with anything from Four Tet) the duo are also keen to include visuals as well, with Stuart Sinclair using some terrific animation to add even further life to these vibrant tracks. If you want to see how it all plays out live then you’ve got a chance tomorrow as they play InSpiral Lounge in London.
