Ironweed - Down To My Grave

Aniff Akinola is probably not a name that you are that familiar with, however if I said A Guy Called Gerald Voodoo Ray it would probably bring a big smile to your face and a number of great memories rolling around in your head. Well Aniff co wrote that track as well as Kirtsy MacColl’s Walking Down Maddison as well as The Beloved, Urban Cookie Collective, Steve Hillage and Backyard Dogs.

So not a bad CV eh?

Ironweed is his own stab at writing and producing and it has to be said he’s kept up his impressive run. Down To My Grave does draw influence from Alabama 3 and Freak Power (remember them) in that its drawled lyrics over downtempo dance blues beats, ultimately though its a soulful and intimate passage through the mind of Akinola.

The single is out now on Fat Northerner Records and is backed with an Audio Suspects Remix.
