Jack McManus - Either Side Of Midnight

They might be slightly superficial ones, but either way the warning signs were really there for me with this album. You see Jack McManus looks like a cross between Jack Osbourne and a young Leo Sayer and as if things couldn’t get worse he shares a surname with the pie munching X-Factor winner from a few years ago.

I am though willing to give someone a chance based on their music though as that is essentially what’s important here. Especially so when the Guardian describe him as “a one man melody factory” and the Sunday Times Culture section as “immaculate and impossibly catchy”.

Now all that would be fine if it was true, but after two songs I was tearing out what little hair I have left and by the end of the album I was wondering what had just happened. You see unfortunately while it might have plenty of melody, Either Side Of Midnight is so dull it’s untrue!

Just my opinion of course and i’m sure Jack won’t be losing a great deal of sleep over it, but then nor will I in not having this album in my life.
