Elevator Suite - Elevator Suite
Elevator Suite were formed in 1999, signed to Mushroom Infectious who also housed Muse, Ash and Garbage, released one album (Barefoot And Shitfaced), supported Morcheeba and the world looked like it was theirs for the taking.
The music industry though is a cruel mistress and despite respectable sales the band parted company with the label. In band fighting and recriminations followed and after what they describe themselves as “six years of heartache, soul-searching and recrimination”, they finally make it onto a second release.
The eponymous release is in the main beautifully constructed, perfect music to put on in the background and has a funky undercurrent that rears it’s head on tracks like The Wheel which is pencilled in as a forthcoming single. The one track that doesn’t work for me is their lounge-electro version Eleanor Rigby, a tricky one to do bearing in mind the legendary status the Beatles had and it doesn’t quite pull it off.
Despite that one blip though it is a very cinematic feeling album, with some real tracks of beauty (none more so than album closerf U Know That), fingers crossed it will see better times ahead for the band and a third release with less of a gap this time!
Elevator Suite is released on October 8th through Pure Mint.
