Jon Jones And The Beatniks Movement - Engine Power EP

Sometimes in life you need a real shock to the system, something that’s going to come along, grab you by the bollocks rougher than Vinnie Jones on Paul Gascoigne, musically that wake up call comes in the form of the debut EP release from Bradford band Jon Jones And The Beatniks Movement.

While they might have the skinny jeans, these four lads aren’t Razorlight or Libertines wannabes, in fact even seeing those two names in one of their reviews is likely to bring horror to their faces…you see JJ&TBM are the real thing, a group who don’t just talk about rock ‘n’ roll, they live it. They play with a zest and a zeal that suggests everytime they pick up an instrument their lives really do depend on it. Their is a ferocity in their playing and an intensity in Irish Joe’s vocal howl that borders on the demonic, it’s controlled of course, but boy only just!

A lot of bands struggle to emulate their live sound on record and especially find it hard to recreate the energy and enourmity of sound that they get on stage. Songs like Engine Power, Cheers Jimi and the frantic Pushin’ Fuckin’ have their rhythm housed in the blues rock of Hendrix and Led Zep, but take on a ferocity that harks back to the punk bands of the late 70’s.

JJ&TBM though aren’t a band that is looking back in time, they are visionaries that are pushing forward with every week, every gig they play, every new track they demo and every instrument they add to their collection, they certainly respect the past but they are very much the future.

The Engine Power EP is out on 29th July through Fuckoff Records and is available through their MySpace Site, where you will also find a list of their upcoming gigs.
