Fair To Midland - Fables From A Mayfly: What I Tell You Three Times Is True
I love this promo picture above on so many levels. Firstly because it’s a bloody good picture(Photo courtesy of Joseph Cultice) and secondly because the band look so damn happy to be doing it don’t they. You can imagine record boss talking to the band that morning “hey guys we’ve got a great idea for a photoshoot today, you’ll love it”.
Maybe though they look a touch down because they’ve been made to listen to their own, rather ridiculously titled album (what is it with rock bands and titles at the moment). It’s not some massive disaster, it just doesn’t have anything faintly original about it when you listen to it, in a genre that still has a lot of scope for bringing new ideas to the table if you ask me.
Still System Of A Down frontman Serj Tankian was suitably blown away live to sign them to his record label, so maybe they come into their own on stage. They certainly don’t on record.
The album is out now and includes the single Dance Of The Manatee.
