Jurassic 5 - Feedback

I know it might not exactly be the most underground choice for a music writer, but without a shadow of a doubt Jurassic 5 are my favourite hip-hop act. Yes that is ever…sure I like Public Enemy and NWA and all them guys, but there is just something about J5 that puts them up there ahead of the rest for me.

It might be the beats and samples that Nu-Mark throws out at us, or it might be the delivery from Chali 2Na, Akil, Marc 7 and Zaakir...in truth it’s probably the way they all blend together to form an accesible summer-sounding, hip-hop groove that slays me everytime.

Write from Concrete Schoolyard i’ve been hooked and the new album Feedback continues the trend. The five tracks i’ve got as a sampler here see some real diverse surprises, not least the song with Dave Matthews called Work It Out. Other collaborations on the album include Mos Def as well as producers Scott Storch, Exile and Salaam Remi.

It’s frustrating to listen to them though when you see other hip-hop/rap artists plunged straight into the top end of the charts with half the talent of this five piece, still dems da breaks as they say. Feedback is out now.
