Akala - Freedom Lasso
Freedom Lasso is the 2nd album from Akala and he appears to have made progress from his debut long player, with his sophomore effort proving a far more consistent listen as well as lyrically being stronger than It’s Not A Rumour.
I’m still not 100% convinced that we’ve seen the best of this young man yet though, hidden beneath this album is an absolute classic waiting to break out at some point, with time on his side though he has no rush to fill that particular destiny yet.
The album itself is darker than it’s predecessor, has more of a rock influence than the hip-hop beats you’d associate and expect from Akala and makes for an interesting shift in direction. The stand out tracks for me are Comedy Tragedy History, You Put A Spell On Me and the recent single Bit By Bit.
