The Needles - Girl I Used To Know

Scotland seems to be prodicing a lot of bands at the moment who specialise in three minute power pop songs, not sure on the reasoning behind this but The Needles are the latest to burst forth from over the border. Glasgow is responsible for this four piece, however it isn’t obvious from listening to either of the tracks on this double a-side.

Girl I Used To Know is a fairly average song until you get to the chorus, it’s a little bit of a gem on the quiet, it also doesn’t sound too disimilar to Elvis Costello (which has never been a bad thing) and is one of the catchiest you’ll hear at the moment. Dead or Alive doesn’t quite match that level, but the standard is maintained on the b-side Only If You Want Me To a more reflective song.

The single is out now.
