Gorillaz featuring Shaun Ryder - Dare

This is just mighty in every sense of the word.

Take my obvious Blur bias out of the equation here as well as Damon Albarn isn’t the star of the show on this one despite contributing some cracking falsetto vocals on this track. Damon finds himself relegated to fourth place on this package, i’m afraid it’s that good.

I just hope that when this gets its full release on the 29th August that the two remixes on offer here are included because they are both absolutely storming. First up is Soulwax who prove once again that they are better at remixing other artists work than they are making their own music, they turn in a crunching groover to get things started.

DFA then decide that they aren’t going to be upstaged that easily as James Murphy and Tim Goldsworthy produce the best mix i’ve ever heard from them, it’s a mix of two halves as they start by letting Albarn and Ryder battle it out over hypnotic percussion, the second half of it though sounds like the noise made when a formula one car passes you, stetched out and then speeded up and slowed down, speeded up and slowed down….the sort of track that you’d dance your tits off to in a club and wouldn’t notice a single person around you during that time.

The winner though is one Mr Shaun Ryder who threatens another Lazarus style comeback with his best contribution to a record for well over a decade. It’s his Manc whine that steals the show and makes both the original of Dare and the DFA remix so enthralling, he might have his debts paid off in ten years if he keeps this sort of performance up…oh and lets not forget his column in The Sport!
