We Show Up On Radar - Growing A Girl EP

The opening track is The Feeling I’m Without You (Is A Very Bad Feeling), hard to put in words how this track left me feeling, but if we start with absolutely petrified, you may get the picture. Vocals sound like an adult trying to sound like a child but in a comedy fashion, strange sound effects. Next track was The Little Things I’ve lost, not quite so scary but still strange. Very slow vocals but musically quite relaxing. Lyrics were just as weird but because there was variety in the pitch/tone of the vocals, it was a slight improvement.

An Animal Sports Day starts with lots of strange sound effects, couldn’t work out if they were meant to be animals but annoyingly sounded like a set of squeaky toys being used underwater, with vocals by an Aussie on Helium. The title track Growing A Girl, had totally mad vocals, the cd was starting to really annoy me now. Oh How I Wish To Be A Small Japanese Car, round about now I have lost the will to live, the maddest title I have come across for a while, with a sound which I started to think must have been categorised wrongly, perhaps this is a kids cd.

Nearly there it’s the last track Red Balloons, nice simple title, simple but mental lyrics but musically uncomplicated. The overall style is that of a track written to accompany cheap horror movies, one of the lines is “Please help me my sons taken too much helium”. Don’t know about the Helium, someone has taken too much something!

Couldn’t help thinking that had these been sung properly I might have liked it, lyrics were odd, but odd can be good. Unfortunately, I just don’t get the concept, its weird beyond weird, can’t for the life of me work out when this would listened to or by who, but excessive drink/drugs do spring to mind.
