Kippi Kaninus - Happens Secretly
Kippi Kaninus has been described to me as ‘Icelandic musical royalty’ and while that may be stretching the point a touch, he is clearly well thought of in his native land and that love is spreading across the globe via a series of almost DIY releases over the last six or seven years.
One of those has found it’s way onto the excellent British based label Brainlove Records, a label that has no boundaries when it comes to style, age or country of origin with it’s music and as such is building a diverse and quality roster for itself.
The album in question is actually four years old and in places it has certainly been surpassed by other electronica releases since then. Putting that aside though Happens Secretely (an apt title) has so much going for it, if you are prepared to invest the time and repeated plays in it.
If you do you’ll be rewarded by some mesmerising textures and moments of real beauty such as A Soft Living Thing and Yfirskin, odd moments do drift a little easily into the background, but as I hinted at previously this isn’t a record that immediately grabs you, instead it takes it’s time to find it’s way into your affections…but it will get there trust me.
