Madonna - Hard Candy

Madonna has always evolved as an artist, both in her look pand her sound, so the latest album from her really shouldn’t have surprised fans as much as it seems to have.

A few seem to have been put off by the fact that she’s collaborated with a number of hip-hop artists and producers, despite this slight shift towards a more urban production style, the overall sound still is fixed towards the dande-pop market and in the main is her best stab at a long player for years.

For me she’s never really produced classic albums, instead she’s been one of the greatest singles artists ever. Hard Candy certainly has it’s moments that suggest she’ll have more than the one hit single from this album. Heartbeat is a melodic dance track with her unmistakeable vocal, opener Candy Shop is another potential single (if a little cheesy) and I also quite liked Devil Wouldn’t Recognize You.

Some of the lyrics leave a lot to be desired in places, we are after all talking about a fifty year old woman not a twenty one year old, but even taking that into account, it’s still a decent effort from the queen of pop.
