Philpot - Hate Writes Better Than Love

Philpot are a young self taught outfit, who unfortunately seem to have got themselves stuck in the grunge of 1992, so strongly do they hark back to this era in their sound that i’ve just scoured the press sheet that came with it to see if they actually come from Seattle. As it happens they don’t but that’s probably something that wrankles with them.

Personally I was never massive on grunge as it was, Nirvana were a cut above the rest but they haven’t even taken their sound as the major influence. Instead it seems that Eddie Vedder and his drawl are the Pearl Jam like inspiration behind Hate Writes Better Than Love.

It’s a dull listen, offering little in the way of inventiveness or even a hook to drag you back for a second listen.

Fair point on the Detroit/Seattle thing that was me doing something in a rush on my lunch hour! They still sound like a poor mans Pearl Jam though!
