The Beat Surrender

Up until a couple of weeks ago I didn’t own a single bluegrass record within my vast collection (shame on you I hear you shout – possibly). As i’ve said with other genres it’s not that I had anything against it, it’s just a bit of a niche speciality that unless you happen to be in to or can get a nudge in the right direction, can lead to some disastrous purchases!

Things took a turn for the better though when I got sent the single release by Hayman, Watkins, Trout & Lee who are signed to Fortuna Records. Now as a label they are one of my favourites over the last twelve months and when you find out that the group consist’s of the former Hefner man Darren Hayman then you can understand me being a little more interested.

I’m not sure how faithful a bluegrass record this is with my lack of knowledge, but if it’s all as warm, rough around the edges and features subjects that are as everyday and universal as the topics covered here, then I could become a new convert quite easily.

The fact that it was thrown together in two days adds further to the charm, I really like this and i’m proud to add a bit of bluegrass to my collection!
