The Beat Surrender

I have no problem hopping on musical bandwagons if I like something. Equally I have no problem going against the grain of general consensus if a certain bands music has never really registered with me. I acknowledge that I am doing that by not gushing about the The Strokes.

I was never caught up in the buzz surrounding this lot circa 2002 and haven’t bought into the still present hype that accompanies anything they currently release. I like songs like Hard to Explain, Juicebox and Last Nite and can understand why people rave about them, but they have never really struck the same chord with me that they seem to have done with the masses and I am still waiting for that moment of clarity with this band. This monotonous effort is not it.

I remember thinking when the band first came out that the lead singer had an interest vocal style. Now I have come to the conclusion that his constantly sounding under the influence voice has gotten a little stale and I am not convinced that I am ever going to be converted. However with an always open musical mind, I am still waiting.
