Popular Workshop - Her Birthday

When I reviewed the debut album from angular guitar trio Popular Workshop I said that one of the stand out tracks was Her Birthday, so it’s great to see it getting a full release on it’s own.

The track itself is memorable for so many reasons but for once it’s the bass that takes the plaudits for me. As you would expect they also step forward with the yelping pop punk vocal we’ve become accustomed to and the guitar buzz saws it’s way through the chorus in fine style.

That is partly what makes the b-side so surprising as it features proper singing and melody, I’m not sure the fans would approve on a regular basis but it’s a great cover of Electronic Renaissance for me.
