Hollywood, Mon Amour - Hollywood, Mon Amour
Nouvelle Vague composer Marc Collin has had a superb reputation for arrangement, especially when it comes to reworking other peoples material into more lounge based form. So it’s with some excitement that I put the Hollywood, Mon Amour album onto my stereo as it sounds an interesting prospect as a side project.
The album is essentially a reworking of 80’s film soundtrack songs, gone are the cheesy synths and in their place is the trademark lush arrangement and slowed down vibe. In the main it works a treat with some songs such as Eye Of The Tiger, Cat People (Putting on Fire), Flashdance, This Is Not America and Forbidden Colours all improving on the originals.
While some of the other tracks here certainly don’t beat the originals, they do offer intersting and new interpretations and with the exception of Arthur’s Theme which isn’t so good, the standard remains high. Collin is helped along the way by some great vocal performances from Skye, Katrine Ottosen, Nadeah, Dea Li, Yael Naim, Juliette Lewis, Nancy Danino and Leelou.
