My Federation - Honey Bee Album Sampler

My Federation are based in Brighton and choose to label themselves as psychedelic electro rockers, other reviews have called it art rock! For me being a simple girl I just think of it as Happy, Summer Indie (their you go a new genre).

The band have picked up a few fans along the way including Shaun Keaveny from BBC radio 6 breakfast show. Listeners voted Honey Bee/My Federation as the act on the cusp of stardom in a phone in competition. Honey Bee has all the right ingredients for a cracking track, it’s happy with good guitars, and great vocals, is so catchy it gets in your head, and doesn’t go away.

As the title implies it is the ideal summer track, perfect for the festival or just playing in your back garden. They’ve also managed to get Honey Bee on the play list at MTV, XFM and Kerang. Don’t Wanna Die is another good track, great beat, really catchy chorus line, however it does have a very annoying strange sort of synth sound in the background, which I think distracted too much from the song itself. For me this spoilt a really good track, but they do seem to make heavy use of the synth, which isn’t always nessesary.

Open My Eyes, has a very 60’s psychedelic sound (perhaps this was what got them the label Psychedelic Rockers) the track was ok, good vocals but for some reason all I could think about was the guitars weren’t strong enough or loud enough. WOW was the last track, it had a great into but was slightly spoilt for me by the over use of the synth (too loud it overwhelmed the vocals) However can’t get away from this being well written and performed, great summer track. Could be a band to look out for, great summer sound, not sure how it would come across in the Rain!!
