Rolo Tomassi - Hysterics
Sheffield hardcore group Rolo Tomassi weave a blazing trail of rock, hardcore and the odd melodic twist into their full debut album Hysterics, released a week or so ago through the cosistently good Hassle Records.
The thing that sets this album apart from a lot of it’s ilk that I hear (and I do hear quite a bit to say i’m not an out an out rock fan) is that despite the fact on the majority of tracks my untrained ear can’t pick out any lyrics, their blood curdling throaty vocal is tempered with some fine musicianship in the background that keeps things interesting.
It isn’t all blood and thunder though, the first half of Macabre Charade shows that the band can display a softer side and at times in some of the songs Eva Spence does offer some really playful vocals. The best from this group though is saved until last, Fantasia is a draw jopping epic that despite me not timing it must have been around the fifteen minute mark, awesome stuff.
