Calvin Harris - I Created Disco
Let’s get one thing straight here from the start, Calvin Harris is claiming that he has created this thing called disco right. Well he’s wrong, anyone who is anyone in music knows that the bloke with the slightly large ears and curly hair in my local pub invented disco, when he broke the trend at the time by playing back to back Glen Campbell b-sides in the boozer one Saturday Night.
Now we’ve got the fact that Calvin Harris is a liar (fact!) out of the way, let’s look at some other less controversial facts, he’s big buddies with Groove Armada and CSS who he has remixed, he’s been asked by Kylie Minogue to work on her new album and his singles are selling by the bucketload.
Maybe it’s just me but I really don’t see the attraction, it’s all been very formulaic so far, imagine Fatboy Slim setting his sights on the 80’s and you wouldn’t be far away. So many of the tracks sound similar on this album, that I can’t imagine it’s something you’d want to put on repeat in a hurry. When it comes to commercial electronic music north of the border then Mylo can rest easy for the time being, he’s still the number one by a comfortable margin.
I Created Disco is out now through Columbia.
