Manchester Orchestra - I’m Like A Virgin Losing A Child

Despite the name Manchester Orchestra hail from Atlanta, Georgia (home of R.E.M. amongst others), a five piece band that deal in emotional rock music, but thank christ they veer nicely away from the dreaded emo sound on I’m Like A Virgin Losing A Child.

At times it does feel as though they’ve stretched themselves a bit too much, the odd track seems to get caught up way too much in ‘feeling’ angsty and loses any semblance of a tune. These moments though are few and far between and on Wolves At Night, Colly Strings and I Can Barely Breathe they do scale the heights that suggests a bright future in store for them.

As a reference point, they sounded a little like the better moments from Get Cape Wear Cape, Fly. The album is out now through Favourite Gentlemen / Columbia.
