Imogen Heap - Hide and Seek

It’s been bugging me all week where exactly I’ve heard Imogen Heap’s voice before. Hide and Seek, the first single released from her second album, Speak For Yourself, was apparently played-out on the closing sequence to the season 2 finale of T.V. series ‘The O.C.’. Since then it’s created quite a stir and jumped into the iTunes top 20.

That’s not where I heard it.

The Garden State soundtrack. That’s where I’ve heard it. After a little digging I realised that Imogen’s also in Frou Frou, whose track ‘Let Go’ was featured on the said soundtrack. So there you go. Mystery solved.

Heap’s electronically-treated vocals (I love a good vocoder as a few of you know) are the only instrumentation on the sparse Hide and Seek. Artists whose songs are consistently soundtracked are often viewed with some misgiving, but it’s just a simple fact that her mesmorising vocal style simply cries out for the emotion-fest that is the drama series season finale.

Lovely stuff. Both Hide and Seek and the album Speak for Yourself are out now.
