Jim Moray - Jim Moray

Jim Moray won critical acclaim a plenty for his debut album Sweet England which melded perfectly the elements of folk and electronica, he seemed to be pushing folk music forward for the first time in years and he looked a major talent.

His second album released in May of this year is something of a disappointment. Second albums can be difficult, especially after such a good debut but his self titled effort is in places dull and lacking emotion. Its only on tracks like Barbara Allen and My Sweet Rose that he ups the ante. This album is less beat driven and instead goes for a similar sort of feel to Antony & The Johnsons with more focus on the arrangements.

Just my opinion on this one though as you’ll find reviews across the board have been divided on it, some declaring it a masterpiece others taking a similar line to myself…I guess we really need to see what he comes up with next before making a final judgement on him.
