Q-Tip - Kamaal The Abstract

Originally slated in for a release around 2001, Q-Tip finally gets to drop his much vaunted Kamaal The Abstract album and it’s easy to see why he waas so keen for it to see the light of day.

Is it his finest work? No it’s not, but it’s certainly a good album and one that you’ll easily find the right time and place to play it, with it for me working better as a background piece.

He plays several instruments on the album, uses his trademark MC skills and also produced the album himself so it’s clearly a very personal piece of work from him.

While it’s definitely accessible it’s not a mainstream release, instead a lot of the album is pieced together by jazzy funk breaks and beats and while it treads close to being quite disjointed, he pulls it back enough to make it a fluid release.

So an off the wall release from an endearing star who always delivers something intersting, this is certainly no different in that respect.
