Emily Haines & The Soft Skeleton - Knives Don’t Have Your Back

Emily Haines is better known as the pretty, talented frontwoman for Metric a band who cross rock grooves with an electro sound and also as part of the ever changing Broken Social Scene outfit.

Knives Don’t Have Your Back though is her very own album, personal, intimate, soft and slightly insecure sounding, it’s eleven tracks of piano driven mellow tracks with the occasional horn and string arrangement courtesy of her band The Soft Skeleton.

In the main though it’s just the fragile vocals of Haines and her piano for company…on the whole it works brilliantly well, growing on you each time you give it the time it deserves on your stereo. She’s never better than on closing track Winning, a beautiful song from start to finish.

The album is out now through Drowned In Sound Recordings.
