Lady Sovereign - 9 To 5

The ‘first lady of grime’ returns with the follow up single to Random, released in March this year.

9 To 5 fortunately isn’t a new version of either Sheena Easton or Dolly Partons 1980’s hits, it’s yet another slice of charismatic London street music that Lady Sovereign punctures with trademark humour in the lyrics as she ponders where her career is going as she gets pushed towards presenting C Beebies or wearing Bikinis in FHM, all this is set to jumpy beats and a steady flow.

Sovereign is also keen to ensure that all bases are covered remix wise as well, Tom Senghore throws in a couple of decent mixes to keep the dance heads happy while Y£$ Productions give a typically intriguing mix, as does Roll Deep’s newest member JME who keeps things distinctly grime. The one I haven’t heard yet that looks like being a potentially limited promo is The Ordinary Boys remix that she commissioned, described by the lady herself as an “almighty mix”.....now this I have to hear.

The single is released in early August however if you want to hear a track from her forthcoming album in the mean time then here is a freedownload of Tango
