Gabriella Cilmi - Lessons To Be Learned

Lessons To Be Learned is a great choice of title for young Gabriella Cilmi as she’s delivered an assured and mature debut album for one so young, yet listening to it, it’s clear that musically and song-writing wise she still has a way to go.

She’s got a really strong voice and it has a richness to it that you maybe wouldn’t expect from her still developing voice. As pop songs go on the album she does have some really strong, confident tracks that have a good pop sensibility about them, such as Sweet About Me, Einstein, Sanctuary and Sit In The Blues.

On some tracks though the vehicle for her voice isn’t really there and the songs lack either a memorable chorus or enough musically behind the voice to lift the track.

A promising debut album, a talent who if nurtured right is going to develop fantastically over the coming years and fingers crossed someone I’ll have an interview with in the next issue or two on this site.
