Unklejam - Luv Ya (Album Sampler)
Unklejam are made up of Tyson Speede from London, Bobby Joel Stearns born in London but raised in Hawaii (after which he moved back to the UK first to Bradford then Glasgow ending up in London) and Adonistair who was born in North Carolina, USA.
The band name was taken from Funkadelics 1979 album Uncle Jam Wants You. The single Luv Ya was released in February 2007, with the album due out in May 2007. The first track is Luv Ya, a very James Brown intro, funk with a bit of rock thrown in for good measure. Brilliant track really different, this should have had loads of airplay and get played in the clubs.
What Am I Fighting For, is more electro than the first track, a good dance beat, strong enough to be another single (the track is currently record of the week on JK and Joel show on Radio One and is released as a single on 28th) and again could hear this in a club or on the radio. Cry is more soulful, a change in direction, which shows the versatility of this threesome, had a lot of blues influences.
Luving U, starts like a rock/electro pop track, perhaps the only track, which didn’t immediately catch my attention, the vocals weren’t as strong, and the style of the track was quite mismatched. Didn’t work for me but the production was good. Last track was Stereo, another rock influenced track, combined with the elector pop but this time seemed to work better. Perhaps reviewing this sat in a field with the sun beating down wasn’t the best idea, I loved all of it but perhaps it was just the right weather for Unklejam to be played.
For me this was a fantastic mix of Jazz Funk, Rock and dance (all a bit 70’s) with fantastic vocals, cant wait to hear more from them
