Various - Make Some Noise

Make Some Noise is a unique music download campaign being run by Amnesty International which was launched on Human Rights Day (10th December).

The four tracks that kick start this campaign are just the start of it, with further tracks being made available throughout 2006. The unique thing about all the tracks are that they are all cover versions of John Lennon songs, with Yoko Ono making his entire songbook available to the organisation.

Of the first four I have to say that surprisingly it’s probably the Black Eyed Peas who take top prize here. Leaving behind Fergies ‘humps’ and ‘lumps’ they do a rousing version of Power To The People.

Snow Patrol (pictured recording the track above) turn in a lovely version of Isolation, while the Postal Service deliver a typically good version of Grow Old With Me, a track that they have made to seem like their own. The only one that didn’t work too well for me was The Cure doing Love, but three out of four ain’t bad for starters is it.
