The Enigma Design - Manuscript EP
The Enigma Design are a five piece from Bristol, formed in 2004. They cite influences such as The Who, Dredg, Explosions In The Sky, Drive in and Japanese composer Nobuo Uematsu. I have to say this band really appealed to me from the moment I heard the opening notes of Manuscripts , I just knew I would love it. But just because this is my type of music doesn’t mean I shouldn’t be objective.
Opening track Manuscript is a brilliant piece of indie rock, everything in the right proportions the guitars and drum beats never overwhelm each other, plus excellent vocals. Roads Between Us is much slower more thoughtful number, well written lyrics.
Last track Saints and Ghosts again has a great balance fo pulsating drum beats and thrilling guitar riffs. In fact this was my favourite track on the ep. I hope they get the break they deserve, I would love to see them supporting a big band as I think the style they have would suit a reasonable size venue. It’s not often that a single or three track ep would find its way into my play list, but this is still in my car and getting played on a regular basis.
