Alkaline Trio - Mercy Me
Not sure what I really expected from this band as up to this point i’d not hear anything by them, despite them being around for a while now and by my reckoning have released four albums to date.
Mercy Me is thankfully not a cover version which was my first worry when I saw the title, it was only later in the day that I remembered that Robert Palmers abomination of a track was actually called Mercy, Mercy Me. Now i’ve seen this band described as either punk or rock, but to me Alkaline Trio sound anything but that on the strength ofthis single.
It’s all a little bit too nice, they sound way too preppy, a sound that betrays the bands image. I was expecting raw aggression and energy instead what you get is a drippy underfed track that could certainly benefit from some rock nourishment.
