Mixtapes & Cellmates - Mixtapes & Cellmates

for the last three or four years i’ve been listening to the Postal Service and hoping that we’d either have a follow up album out soon, or at the least a band would emerge that had been inspired by it enough to come up with their own gem of an album that crosses indie and electronica.

I don’t know if Mixtapes & Cellmates are inspired by Postal Service or not (it lists The Cure, My Bloody Valentine and Craig David on the press sheet), but either way they have come up with an album that can at last sit alongside Give Up having beautifully combined the two genres.

From the moment the gentle bubbling electronica of Hold starts off, to the beautiful closing Streetlights Saved My Life it is a dizzying blur of a ride through soundscapes of electronica, shoegazing indie and the odd sonic noise burst. An album to lose yourself in and enjoy.
