Victoria Hart - Mood Swings EP

What do you presume when you like the first track on an EP but not really any of the others afterwards? With a lot of bands I would guess that more effort has been put into the first track and the others are filler, or maybe that it’s a sound that once heard you quickly tire of.

The thing is I don’t think it’s either of those things that have caused my reaction to the new Victoria Hart EP, certainly as much effort has been put into the other tracks and the arrangements don’t sound like filler tracks. Likewise I don’t think it’s something you’d tire of having heard the rather good Some Day.

I think it might be because thats her own track and she sounds so comfortable and heartfelt singing it, where as the others the songs own her, rather than the other way around. Jazz interpretations of songs through the ages are nothing new unfortunately, to stand out you need to do something magical with them, easier I would suggest is to come up with your own magic as she’s done with the first track.

That she has talent is beyond doubt, so unfortunately is the fact that it could be put to better use with original material.
